Chief Justice Kay McFarland Award
The Women Attorneys Association of Topeka is proud to announce this year's award recipient:

Whitney Casement
Congratulations, Whitney!
Chief Justice Kay McFarland was a trailblazer. The first woman elected to a judicial position in Shawnee County and the first female justice and chief justice of of the Kansas Supreme Court, she not only achieved excellence in the practice of law, but she opened countless doors and paths for the women who followed her into the practice. A world-class show ring rider, Justice McFarland loved animals and bred Irish Wolfhounds. She also enjoyed world travel, including attending African safaris with a former director of the Topeka Zoo. Justice McFarland's dream was to leave a legacy gift of a Japanese garden to the capital city of the state she honorably served. That dream is now a beautiful reality at the Topeka Zoo.
The Justice Kay McFarland Award celebrates a woman who has achieved professional excellence in her field, influenced women to pursue legal careers, opened doors for women lawyers in a variety of job settings that were historically closed to women and advanced opportunities for women within the profession.
